Kris Hancke Bio

MS, RHIA, CCS, CHTS-IS Program Director of the Health Information Coding Specialist Program Great Falls College, MSU

Hello! I would like to introduce myself to you.  My name is Kris Hancke and I have been an online Health Information Technology Instructor for about 10 years. I live in South Riding, Virginia and I have two teenage boys that keep me very busy.  I thoroughly enjoy teaching at the college level.  It has been something that I have been inspired to do throughout the later part of my career and I am thrilled to be able to make it my full-time career!  It is my pleasure to get to know the students and to work with other faculty members to share ideas and promote a positive learning environment for all!

Education

I am a graduate of James Madison University, where I studied Health Science.  I also hold a Masters degree in Information Technology with a concentration in Health Information Management from Capella University. Between obtaining these two degrees, I also received an Associate in Applied Science degree from Northern Virginia Community College in Health Information Technology.

Professional Background

I am certified as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) and a Certified Healthcare Technology Implementation Support Specialist (CHTS-IS) through AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association). During my 10 years of online teaching experience, I have worked at Great Falls College MSU, where I oversee the Health Information Coding Specialist Certificate program and Northern Virginia Community College as an Instructor in the Health Information Technology Career Studies Certificate program and in the Health Information Technology Associate Degree program.  I also worked at GE Healthcare for 12 years in various roles, including Implementation Consultant, Support Analyst and Software Test Engineer.

Hobbies & Interests

I enjoy staying active by biking, walking, and jogging around my neighborhood, in addition to working out at the gym. My two teenage boys also keep me very busy and I really enjoy spending time with them!
